EMT-A (aka EMT-Advanced; Advanced-EMT, EMT-I, EMT-Intermediate) professionals play a critical role in emergency medical services, providing advanced care to patients in need. If you’re considering a career in this field, you may be wondering about the average salary for AEMT professionals in different states. This guide provides an overview of the average salaries by location, so you can make an informed decision about your career path.

What factors affect AEMT salaries?

There are several factors that can affect the salary of an AEMT professional, including location, years of experience, and level of education. In general, states with higher costs of living tend to offer higher salaries to EMT advanced professionals. Additionally, AEMTs with more years of experience or higher levels of education may be able to command higher salaries. It’s important to research the specific factors that may impact salaries in your area before making a decision about your career path.

Average salaries for AEMT By State

The average salary for AEMT professionals varies significantly by state, and good data is hard to find.  “Advanced-EMT” is not listed with the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, and rolled into the EMT category. Other job-listing site based reporting rolls everything (EMT through Paramedic) into the same category. Again, making these numbers tricky to identify to the average googler.

Salary Analysis

The following AEMT salary list was compiled using multiple sources, like ZipRecruiter. These numbers were then rolled to nearest hundred (to help compensate for the irregular reporting). According to the data, the top paying states for AEMT professionals are New York, New Hampshire, and Arizona, with average salaries ranging from $40,000 to $46,000 per year. Other states with high average salaries for EMT-I professionals include Wyoming, Tennessee, and Hawaii. However, it’s important to note that salaries vary based on factors such as cost of living, level of experience. Also, the specific job location (ie. cities, rural, off-shore, overseas) can have a huge impact on salary bases.

Tips To Increase Your AEMT Salary

If you’re an EMT advanced professional looking to increase your salary, there are a few things you can do. First, consider pursuing additional certifications or training, such as becoming a paramedic or specializing in a certain area of emergency medicine. This can make you more valuable to employers and increase your earning potential. Additionally, consider working in high-demand areas or for private ambulance companies, which may offer higher salaries. Finally, negotiate your salary when starting a new job or during performance reviews to ensure you’re being compensated fairly for your skills and experience.
