Louisiana EMT & Paramedic Training and Certification

Before committing the time and money it takes for EMS certifications, you must be sure there is not anything in your background that may prevent you from attaining your state certification! Any criminal offenses may disqualify you, so it is best to check with the state EMS office if you have a questionable background prior to training.

The State of Louisiana requires emergency medical personnel to be licensed through the Louisiana Bureau of EMS. To qualify to submit the certification application, the applicant must have already taken and passed the National Registry (NREMT) examination. To be marked eligible to test NREMT exams, the applicant must have previously completed an approved NREMT training program, like PERCOMonline’s EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic programs.

EMS certification requirements:

  • Successfully complete a state approved EMT course.
  • Present a valid, unrestricted NREMT certification as an EMT by successfully completing the NREMT computer adaptive exam and a Louisiana Bureau of EMS psychomotor exam.
  • Complete the EMT application on the Bureau of EMS Information Management System and submit the required licensure fee.
  • Maintain a valid CPR BLS credential.

Reciprocity

Some applicants may already have a license in another state but are wishing to legally work in Louisiana. This applicant must go through the “reciprocity” process to attain the Louisiana certification using their existing license. Refer to the EMT initial licensing info link above.

Applicants shall be considered a Louisiana resident for the purpose of licensure and licensure fees if:

  • The applicant is domiciled in Louisiana; and
  • The official, residential address of the applicant listed on the application is in the State of Louisiana; and
  • The applicant has taken the psychomotor exam in the State of Louisiana; or
  • The applicant is employed by the federal government; or
  • The applicant is a member of the United States Uniformed Services.

Applicants not meeting the aforementioned criteria shall be considered non-residents for the purpose of licensure and will be charged relative out-of-state licensure fees.

Individuals applying for a Louisiana EMS license must hold a current national registry certification for the level in which they are applying as well as provide notice of current licenses held in other states.  Temporary or provisional licenses will not be provided until the license application is processed.  Verification of current license status in each state will be reviewed and considered prior to application approval.

PERCOMonline Training For Louisiana Students

PERCOMonline is not an officially recognized training facility for EMT Basic, Advanced EMT, Paramedic, and EMS Instructor licenses for Louisiana. However, many LA students have completed our programs for National Registry certification and use it to get their TX license, then apply for the LA license using the reciprocity process.

PERCOMonline is approved in Louisiana for clinical affiliation agreements with hospital and EMS provider sites within the state. View our approved sites on this map -> https://www.percomcourses.com/clinical-locations-map/
